What is Revels North?

Revels North, Inc. is a tax-exempt, non-profit organization, incorporated in 1985, which produces performances and events to encourage understanding and appreciation of traditional music, dance, ritual and other art forms through the medium of participatory theater and communal celebration. Revels is a registered service mark of Revels, Inc. Co-founder and national Artistic Director of Revels, Inc. is John Langstaff. Revels, Inc. was incorporated in 1974 to further the production of Revels performances and related projects.

Revels North has produced two wonderful ten-minute promotional videos (on DVD) that convey the very essence of the Solstice Festival and Christmas Revels. The Solstice Festival video was filmed by Daniel Crowe and edited by David Millstone. It features excerpts from the festival and interviews with David Gay.

These promotional videos are available for showing to organizations, neighborhood gatherings, schools, church groups, etc.-just about any group who would like to learn more about Revels. They are short, they are informative, they are entertaining and they are highly professional. You can show the videos yourself or you can arrange to have a Reveler come to present a program for your group. Call 866-556-3083 for more information.

Videos for sale: Both the Solstice Festival and Christmas Revels promotional videos are available on one DVD for $10.00. Contact Revels North General Manager (1-866-556-3083) to place an order.

Widening Our Circle

"Outreach" is a word that's been heard a lot when Revels folks have gathered this year. The Board and other interested friends are making a concerted effort to spread the word to those who may not have heard -- Revels is an Upper Vally gem, and something worth being a part of.

In 2005, Revels North was awarded a grant from the Vermont Arts Council specifically for conducting outreach activities leading into the Solstice Festival and the Christmas show. This grant was made possible with funds from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Vermont state legislature -- we thank them both!

Associate Director Maureen Burford and several other experienced Revelers formed the Revels Troupe, which performed in the spring at Samuel Morey Elementary School in Fairlee, at the Hartland Elementary School, and at the Norwich Farmers Market. The troupe was received enthusiastically, and we feel these performances played a part in bringing so many new singers to the Solstice Festival choruses, as well as bringing lots of folks to the Festival itself.

The Revels message is about encouraging people to join into community. We hope you'll tell friends and acquaintances about the many ways they can join the Revels experience -- having fun backstage, in the chorus, in our audience, or at our teacher workshops and community appearances. Look for the Revels booth or the Revels Troupe at a community event near you. Help us spread the word that Revels is a great way to join with your neighbors in an atmosphere of music and joy.
